Cardiff European Games
We just got back from doing some coverage for the Cardiff Malaysian European Games 2009. It’s all about getting together through sports like football, netball, badminton, ping pong, basketball, congkak and more.
After having a nice breakfast, we headed towards Talybont Sports Centre. We walked around quite randomly just to get a feel of the event before taking out our um weapons. After about half and hour, we got stuck at the ping pong section. What made us stay there was the lighting and we got the chance to do trial and error shots in order to get a perfect setting for sports photography. Now all is not easy as it seems. Sports photography is hard. It may look bright in that hall, but when you’re trying to crank that shutter speed to freeze action. Thats when you realize that it is a challenge. You just have to find that compromise between freezing the action and getting the exposure bright enough.
Before we share with you some pictures and reviews, we would love to share a funny clip. It’s called Excessive Ping Pong Celebration and found on CollegeHumor.
After taking a few shots and while waiting for the final round of ping pong, we decided to go and take , or at least try and take a few photos at the basketball section. To be honest, it’s really hard. Since then, we started to appreciate what a telephoto lens could offer us, especially fast lens such as those having a constant aperture of f2.8.

And few other random shots from the ping pong and basketball tournament.

The final event of the day was the football match between Glasgow and Dublin.
