Event Review: Estrella+7 Collar Tshirt in London!
What more can i say? For you guys already into the indie Music scene in Malaysia, 7 Collar TShirt is pretty much embedded into our brains. As for Estrella, i think they have been around for quite some time and are starting to make ground.
Estrella? The first time I’ve heard them I was blown away. Mellow music, beautiful lyrics. And partly due to the fact that Liyana, has a beautiful voice as well (hehe). The event was held in London, at The Venue ULU, somewhere near University College London. KnUKe has been great in getting our local acts to come perform in the UK, I’m hoping for One Buck Short, Disagree OR BUTTERFINGERS, fingers crossed, to perform later on in the future.
Quite a big event as the main sponsor is Air Asia X, with other sponsors including apparel company, Radioactive, who has done a collaboration t-shirt exclusively for the tour, and also Laguna Music.
So how did it go? Everything went super well, except for the ending, which we’ll talk more later on. Besides the two main performing bands, 5 other opening acts by different bands also performed.
They were (consecutive order of play), Selamat Pagi Treforest, Izrin Thani, Colonel Boxmasters and the Womanizers, Johan Collective (pronounced as YOhan), and a local act Stowaways.
The Stowaways (special review coming up soon) were really good in my opinion. Really energetic and excellent on stage showmanship. They’re a punk rock-pop band, reminds me of The Clash and Strokes a bit. Hoping these guys do make it big.

Pay these guys a visit at www.myspace.com/thestowaways, they have their music that you can stream, but they sound way better live. Johan Collective seems like they’ve been in the music industry for years, with some collaboration tracks with other mainstream artist on their resume.
Funny because I remembered there was a large gap in front of the stage, between the audience and the stage. Like the parting of the red sea by Moses. But as soon as Estrella came on stage, the sea completely joined again. I guess the media (myself) had a hard time trying to capture pictures of them. Crowed was sporting, so it was fun.
Liyana of Estrella, was very “sporting” as she really connected with the crowed and responded to all the remarks by fans. I think they played most of their songs in their album, with Stay being the last one. Owh, Duan from 7 Collar also went on stage to play with Estrella as he had written some songs for the band, one of them being Heaven.
7 Collar Tshirt was the last band of the night, save the best for last as they would say. Duan was energetic for the most part, really putting on his best show. Lighting was somewhat quite dim apart form the usual change of coloured lights illuminating the bands. Had to use Manual mode all the time and Spot metering. ISO 1000, so pretty noisy pics there. Just as 7 Collar were getting fiery, the management of the venue asked for the event to be stopped at exactly 10.30 pm! Whats up with that?? We the audience were pretty much dumbstruck, but Duan and the band was clearly pissed off. Who could blame them, coming all the way from Malaysia to play a gig in London, just to get kicked out, bad image dude. Lets hope that KnUke is not affected by this, and that they’ll continue with their mission of bringing our local acts here. All in all , a great event at a good venue, value for money? Well considering that they’ll have come all the way from Malaysia, 10 quid is alright. Your’re probably gonna spend it on credit topup anyway, or even makan kat Malaysian Hall right? For more pictures, you know you can always come and visit our flickr set – hey we’ve turned pro (flickr account)! Which means more pictures, yeay!
