Seeing with our eyes closed

How do we see? Is seeing possible with only our eyes wide open? Is a blind man truly blind or does he see what we can’t? The hidden, unapparent things in life. Maybe the blind man sees the true nature of mankind, past the superficial faces and uniform/clothing/dresses. God gave everyone equality, and what one person lacks, he makes up with other things in abundance.

How about us, the photographers. Are we capable of creating pictures without even seeing the image in front of us? If we close our eyes, and imagine, our minds eye will see images of places that we’ve never been to. Can you create that image in your mind? Composing the picture, carefully selecting the subject, picking out the colours, creating our own perfect image. Bending light to our will, thus the name photography, which in latin means ‘to paint with light’. Even without the camera, we are still able to crate photographs in our mind. And that should be a form of practicing photography anywhere even without lugging our cameras around.
What’s even better is looking at other people’s work. At one point you’ll have seen so many images that those images are able to deconstruct and you subconsciously piece how the image wants to be. That image will stay hidden until to a point that you forget about it, some people call it ‘marinating’ inside your mind. But once the moment comes, something (scenery, colour etc.) will trigger that image to come flooding back in and thats when you look through your eyepiece. At that perfect moment everything is silent, your mind is focused on that one image. You press your shutter down. Snap. Perfection in less than a second.
Try imagining a sphere surrounding you. Now everywhere on that surface of the sphere is a vantage point on which we are able to see, and thus is a possible image to capture. Don’t just conform to the eye-level view, shoot from below your hip, above your head, way low on the ground, experiment and you will be rewarded with great images, not to mention a fresh view on your photography. And remember, you dont need to shoot through the viewfinder. Create the image in your mind, then take the shot by holding up, or down, your camera in position of that shot. So with that, seeing is possible with our eyes closed shut.
