Email from our reader:
Salam bro,
I’m looking for an affordable, light (but sturdy) and reliable tripod. Do you have a suggestion on what brand should I look for?
Thanks.

Salam (Peace be upon you) bro,
First of all, thank you for your question. We have not covered regarding camera tripod yet here, but we’ll try out best.
Let us start with the leading brands in camera tripod:
- Manfrotto
- Giottos
- Velbon
Those three are the well-known brand for tripod and some few others competitors can be viewed in the market, including the camera store own brand tripod system which we often under-estimate them.
Price may varies depending on the material used to build the body and how much load it can support. Some features that you would be good if you pay attention. It is not must, but good if you could
- Have spirit level bubble in your tripod head.
- The head of the tripod can be adjusted freely – preferably having a ball joint.
- Have a good locking mechanism (after you have adjust your tripod head)
- Have adjustable leg with sharp pointed legs (mostly tripod will)
If you can have all the features of the tripod, that would be good enough. And don’t worry much about the weight because most portable tripod is suitable for nature, sports, travel in which for standard SLRs.
Once you have a camera with a long barrel, then you’ll have to spend more on some serious professional tripod head and body (bought separately).
But don’t buy it now. Wait for the Christmas sale!
You’ll find the price will drop a bit. Oh and it is good if you can try the tripod first.
We hope this will help you buying a perfect camera tripod.
P.S More tips on the bottom for you Bijan!

Salam Bijan!
Just wanna add a few more points on buying a tripod:
> Get a tripod with only 3 extendable section on the legs, as more than three would cause the legs to become more narrow, thus decreasing the strength of the legs, subsequently the stability of the tripod.
>get a tripod with a hook under the main extension tube, middle one, with the hook you can hook ur bag to it, and the weight of the bag will serve as an anchor to increase the overall stability of tripod+camera. This will in turn reduce camera shale during long exposures, and sometimes that little movement does make a difference, especially to a light camera.
> try looking into monopods as well, relatively cheap, and more mobile than a tripod (i believe)
Hope that answered your question Bijan!

This tripod is the perfect accessory to the Flip Ultra Video Camcorder. I only wish I had ordered it sooner. It is an incredible value and greatly expands how you can use your camcorder. On this video, which is less than two minutes, I show you the tripod and how it can attach to various items. Then I let you see it work in action as I use…
