ULTIMATE Ebay Camera/Lens buying guide+tips
Mon, Oct 19, 2009
As of late, i’ve been getting questions from people about do i buy my camera equipment on ebay. Well, to be honest, i bought 100% of my stuff from ebay. Its that cheap. People are worried that its not reliable, that u might get ripped off. I totally understand and feel that. Personally, after maybe 60 times (the guilt, the guilt) buying things from Ebay, i have never been ripped off yet, bad products? yes, but thats because i paid dirt cheap for it. Overall, it is WAY cheaper to get stuff from ebay, and it is reliable, and safe. SO here i am to share with you, in accordance to my experience with ebay, the ULTIMate buying guide.
Rule 1. Never buy from a seller displaying stock photos. Cause it could be from nikons site, but not of the actual product, so you don’t know what you’re buying, buying blind.
No
Yes
Rule 2. Ask questions to the seller if you need more info of the product, or just want to see more pictures. Most probably they’re happy to help.
Rule 3. Check their customer feedback, if the seller seem to sell less items, then check the type of product that he sells, he/she might be you’re average person trying to sell of their stuff. SO if they’re a photographer, they’re likely to sell stuff related to photography etc, filters, more lenses, camera case.
Rule 4. Check the postage, some postage can be absurdly expensive. These deals usually try to cover the fact that their product is more cheaper, by compensating that on the postage.
Rule 5. If you’re worried about returning the product should it be faulty, some sellers accept returns within 7 days of receiving the item. So be sure to check for that.
See the bottom, Returns accepted.
Rule 6. Always use Paypal, simple as that. Safe and reliable.
Tips on Bidding and not be a sore loser.
- Bid for the highest you are willing to pay for the item
- When you find an item on bid, save it to your item list, leave it but make sure you’re there at least 30 mins before the bid ends.
- Don’t bid to early, someone will ALWAYS outbid you.
- This is my golden rule for really winning a bid, works 90% of the time, always bid in the last 30-20 seconds before it ends, and bid a value that you’re wiling to pay max for. The faster your internet connection, the faster it is for the page to refresh.
- Even if it seems like no ones wants to buy the item, you have to be on front of ebay in the last 10 mins. Everyone else is just like you trying to snatch the item cheap, and in the last 1 minute of the bid.
- Win and feel like true champ for beating other bidders.
Last but not least, don’t become addicted.
Hope that helped in you guys buying cheaper camera equipment.
